What are the first three things that pop into your head when you think about college? Perhaps studying, football games, and top ramen come to mind. Of course academics and having a booming social life are some of the main priorities for a college student, right?

The environment is the least of a college student’s concern. So why would any student care about the smaller things such as turning the lights off when no one is in the room or recycling?

No matter what your priorities are or what you care about, there are an infinite amount of small changes that any college student can implement into their daily routine, each being environmentally friendly and beneficial for the planet altogether. Here are 5 ways to get started:

  1. Use a reusable water bottle – Purchasing a reusable water bottle not only saves money, but it is convenient with water fountains being located all over campus.
  2. Take notes electronically – Approximately four million trees are cut down a year for paper production alone.
  3. Turn off the faucet when you are not using it – The average American wastes four gallons of water when running the water while brushing their teeth.
  4. Walk as much as possible – Why stress about trying to find parking before class, when walking is good exercise and more efficient.

Small changes in your everyday life can go a long way to protect the future. You never know how a simple action can influence everyone. So why not try and make an impact, no matter the size. It is the little things that will be beneficial with protecting the planet in the long run.
