On November 13, 2016, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church held their annual College Sunday service in Tennessee State University’s Gentry Complex.
Starting at 11:15 am, each song, performance, and message were dedicated to college students across Tennessee. The congregation consisted of many colleges such as Fisk University, Austin Peay State University, Belmont University, Middle Tennessee State University, Liscomb University, Vanderbilt University, and of course, Tennessee State University.
The TSU Royal Court and SGA, Cheerleaders and Tiger Gems, and AOB were just some of the hundreds that came out in support of this service, as they came as a whole to receive the word.
Still, even without these esteemed members of our community Gentry was packed floor to ceiling with people ready to experience this spiritual movement.
The musical selections set up the atmosphere for the spiritual feeding that was taking place. The church also put on a small production that showed the fight of flesh versus spirit, and how the spirit will always win.
The production included singing, spoken word, and dancing which featured members of MZBC’s college ministry. Bishop Joseph Walker delivered a moving message and allowed all college students the opportunity to release all of the weight, issues, and stress that is resting on their shoulders.
To further the spirit of community, when the service was concluded the church handed out boxed lunches to every college student in attendance.
