Based on the title, you might be asking yourself, “Wait, Hillary and Trump aren’t the only two running?” and the answer would be no. There’s actually a total of 4 candidates: The Democratic party’s Hillary Clinton, the Republican party’s Donald Trump, the Green party’s Jill Stein, and Libertarian party Gary Johnson. Jill Stein is an American Physician, activist, and politician who wants to end unemployment and poverty and raise the minimum wage to 15 dollars. Stein was also a presidential nominee back in 2012. The Libertarian party’s nominee Gary Johnson is an American businessman, author, and politician. Johnson served as the 29th Governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2003 as a Republican and was also another nominee for President during the 2012 election. Unfortunately, many people do not even realize that there are alternative options to the Democratic and Republican nominees, including freshmen Gerlyssa Johnson. “I didn’t know that we even had 3rd party candidates, so I think it’s pretty pointless. After all, they weren’t present for any of the debates and we really don’t hear about them” says Johnson. Another argument is that 3rd party candidates cannot possibly win, so why not vote for someone who actually has a chance. Still, the point of voting is to elect those people who will represent your interests, and that may just be a 3rd party candidate. It is up to the voter to decide.
