The women’s center has relocated to the second floor of the Floyd Payne Campus Center room 218, but that’s not the only move they will be making this semester. Dedicated to creating programs to help women succeed in their personal and professional lives there are multiple places on and off campus connected to this station. Ms. Seanne Wilson, women’s center coordinator, will be the face you see when you walk in the door.
“Right now we are busy trying to book the speaker for the Women of Legend and Merritt award dinner being held March 22. We already have five incredible, talented, beautiful woman as honorees,” Wilson said, “and there are so many more events we are putting on this semester; a lot of on-campus organizations are signing up to collaborate with us this semester, and I’m so excited.”
Along with this annual dinner, the women’s center has young women to hosts at special events around the city to help them network. They also have a ‘closet’ full of business professional and business casual dress for young ladies that need help looking nice for interviews or other occupational involved events. The women’s center is also linked to groups such as Linked to Excellence and She Is, both female mentoring organizations.
“Community outreach, education, mentoring and most importantly empowerment,” Wilson said, “are what the women’s center is all about and all the women that participate are grown, successful women that will show the young ladies on campus what they have to do to be successful and stay successful.”
